Sunday Summary: #WOL, #HootSuite Tips & Facilitating Learning

Sunday Summary is my attempt to look back on the week, see what inspired me, reflect on what I learned, and start a catalog of the things that are important to me.  Hopefully you will find some value here as well. The concept was derived from the PKM course that I took with Harold Jarche and his Friday Finds blog post.

Find 1

An article on optimizing your content curation activity in HootSuite by Enrico Giubertoni via Linkedin.

Takeaway: I use HootSuite mainly to manage my twitter feed, though I do have LinkedIn connected to my dashboard as well. This article opened my eyes to a more targeted way of using the advanced features of the search function to find content to share and push to a content curation tool.

Now if I could just pick one of those guys I would be good ; )

Find 2

A blog post by Masrhall Kirckpatrick on the power of note taking and re-reading found via Jane Bozarth (@JaneBozarth) via Twitter

Takeaway: Though I really appreciated Marshall’s perspective on note taking and the link to a good article about the benefits, I really loved that he threw out half-baked ideas. It was Awesome! To me, it’s the whole point of Working Out Loud.

Find 3

An article on the relationship between learning and performance support by Ryan Tracy of E-Learning Provocateur found via a feedly subscription to his blog.

Takeaway: As learning practitioner, I need to remember that “learning is about preparing for performance” and it can happen at anytime. Ryan sums up my takeaway perfectly when he states: “If our driver is to improve capability, then we need to facilitate learning. If our driver is to improve execution, then we need to facilitate performance support.”

Summary (AKA reminders to myself)

  • Explore the tools you are currently using, chances are you can use them to meet your goals. Confession – I have total tool ADD, I have this fear that I wouldn’t be using the right thing so I keep trying everything – crazy I know but it is what it is ; )
  • If we wait for perfect or the right time we will never share. Working Out Loud is about being imperfect.
  • Simple but profound: Learning is about preparing people for performance.
